October 17, (THEWILL) — The Abia APC Renaissance Group has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will peacefully reclaim the State in 2027, accusing Governor Alex Otti of resorting to threats and propaganda in the face of what it described as his dwindling popularity.
In a statement on Friday, the group criticised Governor Otti for allegedly turning his recent media chat into “a spectacle of arrogance and blame-shifting” rather than addressing pressing issues affecting the people of Abia.
According to the group, the Governor has failed to clear arrears of salaries, gratuities and pensions owed to workers and retirees, insisting that Abia remains the only state in Nigeria still defaulting on such obligations.
It accused the administration of diverting attention with attacks on opposition figures, particularly the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who recently questioned the government’s performance despite claims of receiving over N1 trillion in 30 months.
The APC group also dismissed Governor Otti’s boast of drawing an “organic crowd” at Ohanku Road, arguing that past experiences have shown such gatherings do not translate into electoral support. It further alleged irregularities in the last local government elections under Otti’s watch.
“Abians will no longer be deceived by empty propaganda and false claims of performance. Pensioners and civil servants who once supported him now see the reality of neglect, even with the state receiving about N38 billion monthly in federal allocations”, the statement read.
The group further accused the Governor of mismanaging funds, citing alleged diversions of N72 billion meant for school repairs, N36 billion for research and development, and farm inputs worth over N4 billion. It also condemned the use of Signature Bank for state financial transactions, describing it as “a disturbing sign of cronyism”.
Reaffirming loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, the group claimed the President has distanced himself from Governor Otti, while welcoming leaders from other South-East and South-South states into the APC fold.
“With his arrogance, deceit, and threats, Governor Otti has become desperate and jittery nearly two years before the next election. We assure Abians that the APC will reclaim the state peacefully, democratically, and decisively.”
