October 17, (THEWILL) — The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued new directives on the proper recitation and singing of Nigeria’s National Anthem and Pledge to promote uniformity and strengthen national values.
According to the agency, only the first stanza of the anthem is to be sung or recited at official functions, while the third stanza will serve as the National Prayer to be rendered at the beginning of events.
The NOA added that all three stanzas of the anthem should only be sung or recited during special national occasions such as Independence Day, the swearing-in of a President, Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Democracy Day (June 12), and the inauguration of the National Assembly.
It further directed that the National Pledge must always be recited at the end of every official event as a reaffirmation of citizens’ commitment to unity, loyalty, and service.
The agency said the new directive aims to standardize the observance of national symbols and deepen patriotism among Nigerians.
