SAN FRANCISCO, January 04, (THEWILL) – The All Progressive Congress (APC) won all the chairmanship positions in the Saturday’s local council election in Zamfara state.
According to Garba Muhammad, Chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZSIEC), all the candidates of the APC in the 14 councils met all the provisions of the electoral law and had been declsred winners of the election in their respective councils.
Garba further confirmed that 14 political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), participated in the election January 2 election.
However, the PDP, in an earlier statement, signed by Hassan Nasiha, Chairman of the PDP, had said the party was boycotting the election.
Nasiha cited the decision of the PDP to challenge the election of Governor Abdulaziz Yari, of the APC, at the Supreme Court, as its reason for not participating in the election.
Muhammad commended all stakeholders, including security agencies, for ensuring the success of the election.
