SAN FRANCISCO, November 23, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army on Saturday advised members of the Borno Youth Vigilante group, also known as the Civilian JTF, to be disciplined in everything they do.
The Civilian JTF has been assisting security agents to smoke out Boko Haram insurgents from their hide-outs in Borno State and over 800 of its members are currently undergoing an empowerment programme to make them better citizens in life.
General Officer Commanding 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj, Gen. Obidah Ethan, who paid a visit to the training camp of the youths in Maiduguri, the state capital, urged them to pay good attention to the training package and lectures which are aimed at changing their mindset for a positive development.
“The youths have proved to the world that they are formidable partners in the fight against insurgency” he said. “You have equally proved that you are agents of developmental change in Borno State.”
He however urged them to continue to be disciplined even as he acknowledging the efforts of the trainers and resources persons from the military, police, paramilitary organisations and other security agencies attending to the youths in the training camp.
Ethan’s visit is a follow-up to that of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, who visited the training camp last week during a tour of military formations in the state.
Ethan commended the impressive zeal demonstrated by the youths, saying he was satisfied with the training package and conduct of the youths. He also commended the state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, for initiating the youth reorientation proggramme through the Borno State Youth Empowerment Scheme (BOYES).
