November 08, (THEWILL) — Arsenal saw their hopes of a sixth consecutive English Premier League victory snatched away in dramatic fashion when Brian Brobbey scored an acrobatic equaliser four minutes into second-half stoppage time, salvaging a 2-2 draw for Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The Gunners fell behind in the 36th minute to former Academy graduate, Dan Ballard, who rifled into the roof of the net after Nordi Mukiele’s knockdown. Sunderland refused to surrender, with Brobbey getting ahead of Gabriel Magalhaes and David Raya to hook home the leveller. Ballard then made a crucial block to deny Merino in the dying moments and preserve the point for the Black Cats.
The result leaves Arsenal at the top of the table, though their advantage could be reduced to just four points by Sunday’s conclusion. Sunderland sit third with 19 points, while Manchester City and Liverpool meet in a blockbuster clash on Sunday.
