March 31, (THEWILL) – Mikel Arteta has been awarded the English Premier League manager of the month title for the fourth time this season, after a successful March in which Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the table.
Arteta’s unbeaten side scored 14 goals and conceded only three in their four league games, securing wins over Everton, Bournemouth, Fulham, and Crystal Palace. The victory against Bournemouth was particularly hard-fought, with a dramatic injury-time winner from Reiss Nelson, securing a 3-2 win.
The award also marks a clean sweep for Arsenal, with Bukayo Saka taking home the player of the month award, after his three goals and two assists in March. Arteta’s competition for this month’s award came from Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton and Hove Albion, Unai Emery of Aston Villa, and Pep Guardiola of Manchester City.
The award is Arteta’s fourth of the season, having also won it in August, November, and January, and he is now just one away from Jurgen Klopp’s record of five awards in the 2019/2020 season.
Arteta’s leadership has been pivotal in Arsenal’s strong performance this season, and the team will be hoping to continue their impressive form as they prepare to face Liverpool next. The Gunners will be hoping to maintain their lead over Manchester City and challenge for their first Premier League title since 2004.
