BEVERLY HILLS, March 15, (THEWILL) – After much speculation, the long-expected all-British Heavyweight unification fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua looks set to happen as the two pugilists have reportedly agreed to terms on a two-fight contract to unify the IBF, WBO, WBA and WBC heavyweight titles.
Reports from ESPN’s Mark Kriegel, claim Fury and Joshua signed the deal, but dates for the bouts have yet to be determined.
Joshua’s boxing promoter and Group Managing Director of Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn, told Kriegel he is hoping to finalise a venue soon.
Speaking with ESPN, Hearn said: “We’d like to get a site deal confirmed in the next month. The hard part is always getting everybody to put pen to paper. But this was a major effort from all parties to get this over the line. You had rival promoters, rival networks and rival fighters.”
Both fights will take place in 2021 when the dates are announced according to the agreement signed by both camps. Joshua beat Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in December to retain his IBF, WBO and WBA titles and set up the prospect of a mouth-watering clash with fellow Briton Fury, the WBC belt holder.
