BEVERLY HILLS, August 25, (THEWILL) – Six persons were killed Tuesday morning as 22 others were injured as twin explosions rocked Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
Head of Damaturu Response Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Bashir Idris Garga, who confirmed this said while the first explosion ripped through the Central Motor park in the centre of the town at about 7:30am , the second occurred at the Pompomari area.
Garga explained that the first bomb was triggered at the motor park when a teenage girl with an improvised explosive device (IED) strapped on her let go the killer-device.
“The girl was accosted by those manning the entrance to the motor park and while they were trying to search her she detonated the bomb which had a major impact on an already loaded bus that was taking off.”
“This killed four persons instantly and injuring 22 others, six of which were critical injured,” Garga said, adding that the remains of the dead and those injured were later taken to the Damaturu General Hospital.”
On the second explosion at the Pompomari area (Pompomari bye-pass), the NEMA chief said a boy who was carrying an explosive device was accosted by a security man who suspected that he may be carrying an explosive.
Garga said that the explosive went off while taking the boy away, killing both the boy and the security man.
Also confirming the explosions, the Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, Mr. Toyin Gbadegesin, said six persons were killed in the explosions suspected to be the handiwork of Boko Haram.
