April 01, (THEWILL) – Atalanta earned a much-needed victory against Cremonese, who are currently at the bottom of the Serie A table.
The game was not without its challenges, with Marten de Roon surviving a penalty scare, but Atalanta prevailed with goals from de Roon, Jeremie Boga, and Ademola Lookman. The previous match between the two teams in September had ended in a 1-1 draw.
Despite preparing for the Coppa Italia semi-final with Fiorentina, Cremonese were unable to overcome Atalanta’s dominance. Soualiho Meite and Rafael Toloi had early chances to score, but it was Duvan Zapata who set up de Roon’s first goal of the match on the stroke of half-time.
Atalanta made changes at halftime and immediately appeared more fluid on the pitch. Cremonese managed to score a penalty thanks to Rafael Toloi’s handball, but Atalanta were able to regain their lead with goals from Boga and Lookman. Although Cremonese had opportunities to level the score once more, Atalanta held on to secure their win.
