March 15, (THEWILL) — A pioneer member of the media team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Ifeanyi Izeze, is dead, the Atiku Media Office announced on Sunday.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Atiku described Izeze as a dedicated professional who played a significant role in shaping the media operations and policy engagement of his presidential campaigns, particularly in the Niger Delta region.
According to the statement, Izeze joined the media team of the former vice president in 2006 after leaving the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria in Ikot-Abasi, where he had worked before moving to the Atiku Media Office as its pioneer Office Manager.
The late Izeze was said to have brought extensive knowledge of journalism, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria’s oil and gas industry to the team at a critical stage of Atiku’s political career.
A trained geologist, Izeze studied at the University of Port Harcourt up to the postgraduate level.
However, he built a strong reputation in journalism, reporting extensively on Nigeria’s oil and gas sector for several years.
During his journalism career, he wrote for several publications including the defunct Sunray, Anchor, and NewAge newspapers, among others, before joining ALSCON.
Within the Atiku Media Office, he was regarded as a senior member of the team whose contributions helped shape campaign policy engagement in the Niger Delta, particularly on issues concerning the oil and gas sector.
Colleagues also remembered him as a man with a prodigious sense of humour and a deep Christian faith. A born-again Christian and member of Christ Embassy, Izeze was also an ordained preacher of the gospel under the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and his elder and only surviving brother, Pastor Emeka Izeze, a respected journalist associated with The Guardian.
The former vice president prayed that God would grant his family, friends, and colleagues the fortitude to bear the loss, adding that details of his burial arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.
He also prayed that God would grant the late Izeze eternal rest and forgive his sins.
