Attempted Murder: Court Frees Chidi Llyod

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, March 27, (THEWILL) – Honourable Chidi Lloyd, the Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, is a free man following a Thursday ruling by a Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt which struck out the attempted murder charge against him and subsequently discharged him.

Llyod had been docked for assaulting his colleague, Mr. Michael Chindah, with a deadly weapon during a fracas at the chamber of the assembly in July 2013. The video of the incident has been viewed by millions worldwide.

However, after several adjournments, the matter resumed on Thursday before Justice Letam Nyordee who ruled after the state Attorney-General, Worgu Boms, filed an application of nolle prosequi dated March 26 pursuant to Section 211 subsection 1 (c) of the 1999 constitution for lack of material to prosecute the matter.

Boms, who in August took over prosecution of the matter, said he has been unable to get the police to release the case file. He therefore prayed the court to discontinue the suit.
