November 20, (THEWILL) – Two former national chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu and Engr Barnabas Gemade, have acknowledged the humble disposition of Senator Gabriel Suswam in the course of life.
They, therefore, challenged Benue youths to emulate Suswam’s humble lifestyle in order to be supported by the elites and elders in the society.
Senator Ayu made the remark at the Thanksgiving Service and reception in honour of senator Gabriel Suswam’s 60th birthday, held at NKST Church, High Level, Makurdi, on Sunday, praised the celebrant’s humility and loyalty to elders of the state and beyond.
Ayu, who was also president of the Senate, noted Suswam’s goodwill and resilience in uplifting the standard of living of his people, adding that Suswam was able to attract immense support from his friends across Nigeria.
Engr Gemade on his part, said Suswam has proven that he is a politician with a difference, warning the younger ones not to despise elders that assisted them to grow in the society.
He also assured Suswam of the sustained support in his future endeavours.
Earlier, Engr Terver Atsar, who aligned with Dr Ayu and Engr Gemade’s positions, also acknowledged the outstanding leadership style of senator Suswam through his contributions to the development of Benue State and Nigeria at large.
He called on people irrespective of their political affiliation to come together in a bid to tackle insecurity that is bedevilling the state to enable farmers go back to their ancestral homes to farm.
Speaking at IBB Squre, the venue for the reception, the Chief celebrant, senator Suswam stressed the need for the younger generation to build on the legacies of founding political actors of the state have laid.
He acknowledged efforts of senators Gemade, Iyorchia Ayu, among others, for laying a solid foundation for the rest of them to become governors since the inception of democracy.
According to senator Suswam, governor Alia has started well by trying to bring people oriented projects and enjoin him to sustain the tempo for the overall development of the citizens.
He thanked governor Alia, his friends and political associates who came from far and near in identifying with him and family on the special day of his birth.
Proposing a toast, former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, described senator Suswam as a worthy friend and dependable ally with good leadership qualities.
Wife of the celebrant, Arch Mrs Dooshima Suswam, expressed appreciation to all dignitaries, CPC members, groups, associations, security agencies, members of the press, for their show of love to Suswam family and prayed to God to replenish them aboundantly.
Earlier, the CPC chairman, Prof. Nickolas Ada, who presented copies of the books authored by Dr Gabriel Suswam as part of the activities for the birthday to governor Hyacinth Alia, thanked everyone that have contributed in one way or the other that made the event a success.
