December 28, (THEWILL) – Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has selected his final 23-man squad, for the upcoming 2024 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast. The experienced Belgian aims to guide South Africa, past the group stage for the first time since 2015.
Broos expressed confidence that his squad has the quality needed to progress from their group: “If we do not go past the group stages, we will not be happy, and that is for sure.” However, he acknowledged that advancing from the group is always difficult, with all teams highly determined.
The squad will meet on January 4, to begin preparations for the continental showcase. They will participate in a training camp in Stellenbosch until January 9, allowing the players to gel before a closed-door friendly match versus Lesotho.
Bafana Bafana will then depart for Abidjan on January 11 to acclimatise before beginning their AFCON campaign. Broos will be hoping his blend of youth and experience can spark an overdue deep run for South Africa.
