BEVERLY HILLS, January 04, (THEWILL) – The fishing community of Baga in Borno State has fallen to Boko Haram insurgents.
The town was captured on Sunday by the rampaging terrorist who stormed the town in their hundreds on Saturday, sacking it and hoisted their flag at the headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) which they had earlier sacked.
Local sources told THEWILL that residents of the sacked town were left with no choice than to run for dear lives as the rampaging insurgents unleashed terror on the town after sacking the JTF base which used to provide security for residents of the town.
Ibrahim Kaka, a resident of Baga, who managed to escape to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, said he slept in the bush and trekked many miles before he got a bus which brought him to Maiduguri.
According to him, “It was around 5am yesterday (Saturday) when we started hearing gunshots and they (Boko Haram) gained entrance into the Multinational National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) where they killed many civilians living in the barrack.”
Kaka’s account came as Modu Isa, another resident, said the Boko Haram insurgents also pursued the fleeing residents to the bush where they killed many of them.
“They did not spare anybody as they shot at men, women and even children who were fleeing inside the bush,” Isa added.
