December 14, (THEWILL) – One person has been reportedly killed and over 30 abducted along Kaduna-Zaria road by bandits who blocked the highway on Monday night.
THEWILL gathered that the bandits blocked the road around Mawai village just about 15 kilometres away from Zaria.
A brother to the dead victim, Alhaji Sani Dogara, said the deceased was killed by the bandits around 8 pm on his way to Kaduna from Zaria.
It was gathered that the operation which lasted for three hours, led to the abduction of over 30 travellers by the bandits.
An eyewitness said: “There was a waiting car stationed by the bandits where those abducted were forcefully taken to an unknown destination.”
Another source who craved anonymity, said, “We were by the roadside when we noticed vehicles making abrupt U-turns, while other vehicles ran into the bush.
“We also saw several travellers alighting from their vehicles and running barefoot into the nearby bush for their safety.”
As at the time of filing the report, the Kaduna State Police Command and the state government are yet to issue a statement on the incident.
