December 14, (THEWILL) –Â The English Football Association has charged Leeds United with failing to control their players during their 3-2 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
THEWILL recalls that Mateusz Klich pulled down Antonio Rudiger in the 93rd minute of the game for which referee Chris Kavanagh awarded Chelsea a penalty.
Immediately, Leeds players surrounded Kavanagh, demonstrating their displeasure with the decision. The club is said to have failed to guarantee that its players followed the rules.
In stoppage time, Jorginho converted from the penalty spot to give Thomas Tuchel’s team all three points. But, the players confronted each other at full-time resulting in the FA admonishing them and reminding both sides of their obligations.
The official statement from the FA read: “Leeds United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 after its Premier League match against Chelsea FC on Saturday.
“It is alleged that Leeds United FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion when they surrounded the match referee in the 93rd minute and the club has until Thursday to provide a response.”
“It was a game we deserved to draw and we lost it when it was finished,” Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa remarked after the game. “That increases the disappointment.”
Leeds are now five points above the relegation zone in 15th place, while Chelsea are only two points behind Manchester City at the top of the EPL standings
