October 26 (THEWILL) – Barcelona Football Club issued an apology to Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Junior, after one of their board members made inappropriate comments about the player on social media.
Miquel Camps posted on X (Twitter) that Vinicius deserved to be slapped for performing stepovers during Real’s 2-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Braga. Camps said Vinicius was a “clown” and that his skill moves were unnecessary. The post has since been deleted.
Vinicius’ teammate, Rodrygo, said the comments were “pathetic” and “ugly” when informed about them after the match.
Barcelona vice-president, Rafa Yuste, admitted the post was inappropriate and promised Vinicius it would not happen again. “It was a huge mistake. If Vinicius is listening to me, I can tell him this is not going to happen again”, Yuste pleaded.
Manager, Xavi Hernandez, also spoke out against the post and escalating tensions between the rivals ahead of this weekend’s El Clasico clash. “I don’t like anything that generates tension ahead of a game like this. I’d love to get into a Clasico with the biggest respect among clubs, even with us admiring each other,” he said.
