December 13, (THEWILL) — Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze delivered crucial contributions as Fulham condemned Burnley to a seventh consecutive English Premier League defeat with a 3-2 victory at Turf Moor.
The Cottagers ended their own two-match losing streak through an inspired attacking display.
Marco Silva’s side opened the scoring after nine minutes when Harry Wilson’s near-post corner caught Burnley off-guard, allowing Emile Smith Rowe to steer the ball home.
Lesley Ugochukwu levelled proceedings in the 21st minute with an outside-of-the-boot finish, but Bassey restored the visitors’ advantage 10 minutes later, heading in from close range following another Wilson cross.
Wilson extended Fulham’s lead in the 58th minute after Chukwueze found him inside the box, with the Wales forward curling a shot into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
The match threatened to become uncomfortable for the Cottagers when substitute Oliver Sonne reduced the deficit with a well-taken volley four minutes from time.
Fulham withstood late pressure to claim three points that move them seven points clear of the bottom three.
The victory provided welcome relief for Silva’s side following consecutive defeats.
Burnley remain in 19th position, five points adrift of safety. The Clarets’ seventh straight loss leaves them in increasingly perilous circumstances with their survival hopes fading.
