
April 08, (THEWILL) – Former footballers and ex-internationals are taking to the pitch again to showcase their skills in the Bayelsa State All Stars Forum Football Tournament in Yenagoa.
Veteran League players from across the State are taking part in the two-week-long fiesta tagged “BASAF TOURNAMENT 2022”.
The competition got off to a thrilling start on Friday morning, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa, with players from 50 years and above strutting their skills in an opening match that paraded international all-stars against others, which ended 2-1.
Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development. Daniel Igali, who scored the opening goal, said it was fun taking to the football field again.
Engineer Ebiegberi Ebinimi, a former Chairman of All Stars Football Club International, Yenagoa, who was one of the star attractions, marshalled the midfield with confidence, spraying defence-splitting pinpoint passes much to the appreciation of spectators. He said the tournament would foster a sense of friendship and unity among former footballers in Bayelsa State.
With the opening match already held, 16 All-Stars teams across the State will be entertaining spectators in Group games across different venues, culminating in the closing ceremony scheduled for Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Ernest Akuna and Secretary, said the BASAF TOURNAMENT 2022 will create peaceful coexistence amongst members of the All-Stars in the State.
