October 12, (THEWILL) – Bayelsa Queens FC, on Saturday, October 12, 2024, advanced to the semi finals of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT), defeating Fortress Ladies 2-0 at the Western Boys High School Sports Complex in Benin, the Edo State Capital.
Both goals were scored in the second half of the game as the first half ended goalless. Bayelsa Queens in the first half had the opportunity to score the first goal in the 3rd minute of the encounter when Mercy Omokwo was brought down in the penalty box.
Mercy stepped up to take the spot-kick, but was saved by the Fortress Ladies goalkeeper.
On resumption of the second half, Bayelsa Queens increased the momentum and it paid off in the 50th minute as it was a defender of Fortress Ladies that scored an own goal.
The goal was a wake-up call for Fortress Ladies as they came all out to get an equaliser, but the defence line coordinated by Florence Alexander thwarted all the fiery darts of their opponent.
In the 70th minute, Dooshima Tarnum made it two-nil for the Prosperity Girls, to put the game beyond the reach of Fortress Ladies.
