Update III: #BayelsaElection: Collation, Announcement Of Result Continues

SAN FRANCISCO, December 07, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral (INEC) has resumed and started announcing results for Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa State with the result from Ogbia Local Government Area, the home LGA of former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

The election is clearly a two-way race between incumbent governor, Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governor Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

As at yesterday, Dickson had won in four of the five local government areas announced by INEC. He at that time garnered a total of 81, 929 votes, while his closest rival got a total of 56, 514 votes, winning in one LGA. The margin of lead is 25, 415.

Meanwhile, sensing that some groups intend protesting against the final outcome of the election, the police in Bayelsa have banned all forms of procession, rallies or demonstrations.

The Deputy Inspector-General, DIG, in charge of the state, Hashimu Argungu, explained in a statement issued on Monday that the ban was predicated on information at police disposal, which revealed that some disgruntled elements were planning to carry out illegal demonstrations and rallies.

There are 8 local governments in the state – Brass, Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe, Ogbia, Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Yenagoa.
