December 10, (THEWILL) — Bayern Munich overturned a first-half deficit to claim a 3-1 victory over Sporting CP at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening. Lennart Karl continued his impressive goalscoring run with his third consecutive UEFA Champions League strike, whilst Jonathan Tah completed the scoring for Vincent Kompany’s side.
The hosts dominated early proceedings, only to see Karl’s fifth-minute finish disallowed due to Serge Gnabry straying offside during the build-up. Harry Kane came close before the interval when his shot struck the woodwork, but Bayern were caught cold nine minutes into the second period when Joshua Kimmich inadvertently turned the ball into his own net from Joao Simoes’ cross.
The German champions responded swiftly. Gnabry met Michael Olise’s corner with a precise volley four minutes later to level the match, finding space at the far post to beat Rui Silva.
Karl gave Bayern the advantage in the 69th minute, controlling Konrad Laimer’s pass before slotting his effort beyond the goalkeeper at the near post. The teenager has now netted in three successive European fixtures, having previously found the target against Club Brugge and Arsenal.
Tah wrapped up the points with 13 minutes remaining, converting Gnabry’s headed assist from Kimmich’s delivery. Manuel Neuer had earlier produced a sharp save to deny Ousmane Diomande’s dangerous cross, whilst Gnabry was also thwarted by Silva’s diving stop in the opening exchanges.
