BEVERLY HILLS, April 28, (THEWILL) – The Bundesliga bigwigs Bayern Munich have carried out another successful takeover by again attracting quality talent from a tough contender in the German top flight in what has become a pattern for Die Bayern. Julian Nagelsmann, the impressively experienced manager of RB Leipzig has agreed terms to move to Bayern, who have paid off Leipzig for the manager’s services.
Although expected to happen when rumours of outgoing Bayern coach, Hansi Flick, began to swirl around the Allianz Arena, there were some who held that it will be akin to forcing a one-horse race on the German League especially with the poaching antics of the Bavarians. Now, it is happening all over again.
Reporting on the move for Nagelsmann on Monday, THEWILL noted that the last obstacle to scale will be the terms of expected compensation, which at the time, was yet to be determined what possible compensation Leipzig could demand. Early estimations had put it in the region of between €20m to €30m. Bayern found a sweet spot in the middle and agreed to pay €25m, with add ons included.
The contract for the five-year deal, which takes effect from July 1, was signed until June 2026 putting an end to the other reports that linked the Leipzig manager to some other vacant positions, including the one recently created in the English Premier League by the firing of Jose Mourinho by Tottenham Hotspur.
Apart from what Nagelsmann has accomplished this season, the 33-year-old has established himself as one of the top coaches in Europe in recent years and this once earned him the nicknamed “Baby Mourinho”. The German began his senior managerial career at only 28 years of age, when he was appointed to to manage Hoffenheim in 2016.
In 2019, he took over at Leipzig, impressing by qualifying them for the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in his first season. This season, Leipzig is on course to finish second behind Bayern in the Bundesliga, matching the club’s highest ever league finish.
