April 13, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich have suspended Sadio Mane indefinitely following his altercation with teammate Leroy Sane.
After the team’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, Mane punched Sane in the dressing room, leaving a mark on the German before being restrained by other players. The club’s officials held an emergency meeting on Wednesday, to discuss the incident and confirmed the suspension and fine in a statement.
“Sadio Mane, 3, will not be in the FC Bayern squad for the home game against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday,” the statement read. “The reason is misconduct by Mane after FC Bayern’s Champions League game at Manchester City. In addition, Mane will receive a fine.”
There is no word yet on whether the suspension will extend beyond one game. Initial reports had suggested that Bayern was open to selling Mane in the summer, but the Senegalese forward has reportedly expressed remorse for his actions. Despite this, he has been temporarily removed from the club and it is not clear whether he will be involved in the team’s upcoming matches.
As the reigning Bundesliga champions prepare to take on Hoffenheim on Saturday and face Manchester City in the return leg of their UCL quarter-final, the question of Mane’s involvement remains unanswered. Manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to address the situation during his press conference on Friday.
