March 28, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka is facing an uncertain future for the rest of the season after sustaining an ankle injury in Germany’s clash with Belgium, on Tuesday.
The midfielder had to be substituted in the 32nd minute and could miss Bayern’s crucial Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. Bayern, who are currently trailing Dortmund by a single point at the Bundesliga summit, will be hoping for Goretzka’s quick recovery.
The midfielder’s injury is a cause for concern, especially as the club is also preparing for their two-legged UEFA Champions League quarter-final against English side Manchester City.
Saturday’s match between Bayern and Dortmund will also be the first game for Bayern’s new coach, Thomas Tuchel, who was appointed after the club dismissed Julian Nagelsmann last week. The absence of Goretzka could be a major blow for Bayern as they look to win the Bundesliga title for a record-extending 11th consecutive season.
