November 14, (THEWILL) – Sensational midfielder Jude Bellingham and defender Levi Colwill have withdrawn from the England national team squad ahead of their final 2023 European Championship qualifiers due to shoulder injuries, the England Football Association (FA) confirmed on Tuesday.
The talented youngsters, who ply their trade for Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively, will return to their clubs for further treatment and rehabilitation for the injuries which saw them miss recent club matches.
It implies that England manager Gareth Southgate will be without the services of 19-year-old Bellingham and 20-year-old Colwill for the upcoming qualifiers against Malta on Friday and North Macedonia next Monday.
The Three Lions have already secured qualification for Euro 2024 as group winners with four wins from their opening six matches. They will be looking to maintain momentum and finish atop their group before the tournament in Germany next summer.
While the matches may be a chance to debut new talent, the loss of Bellingham in particular is a blow, with the versatile midfielder already establishing himself as a key cog in Southgate’s engine room in the middle of the park.
