July 08, (THEWILL) — Newly appointed General Manager of Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority (BENSESA), Hon. Anto Igbaato, has assumed duty with an inheritance of N64,308,165 million debt from the previous administration.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Igbaato pledged his readiness to use the template laid by the predecessor to turn around the clean environment of the state to a level that will be envious of other states of the federation.
While soliciting the cooperation of the staff to enable him to deliver on the mandate, Chief Igbaato commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for the opportunity to serve in this capacity, calling residents, especially in Makurdi, the state capital, to be ready to obey the sanitation rules and regulations to avoid sanctions.
According to him, shortage of manpower, lack of motivation and casualisation of staff in the authority will soon be a thing of the past, as he will seek the governor’s intervention for better service delivery.
Handing over the documents, the outgoing General Manager, Jennifer Nashima Daniel, stated that the amount she is leaving behind covered part of the repairs of the 22 heavy-duty trucks, diesel and other sundry matters.
According to her, on assumption of duty a year ago, she inherited 45 permanent and 80 casual staff, cleared N18 million backlog of debts, drilled a borehole, and created an ICT and customer care unit, among others.
She identified a lack of funding, manpower, as well as ageing Refuse Collection Vehicles, as some of the biggest challenges hampering quick service delivery by the Authority.
Commending Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve as the General Manager who was in the private sector, Mrs Daniel expressed the hope that his successor would address the challenges to make Benue, especially Makurdi, the state capital, environmentally friendly.
