August 05, (THEWILL) — The Benue State House of Assembly has passed a resolution, calling on the Executive arm of Government to suspend the Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba, for a period of six months over gross Incompetence.
The House also directed the Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Denen Aondoakaa, to stop releasing funds to the board forthwith.
This decision was arrived at during Tuesday’s plenary session when the member representing Katsina-Ala West, Hon. Bemdoo Ipusu, informed the house that the Chairman had refused to honour the invitation extended to her by the adhoc committee constituted by the House to investigate alleged illegal activities going on at the board.
Hon. Ipusu, who is the Majority Chief Whip, stated that the SUBEB chairman had written to the House, claiming it has no right to investigate contracts from the board, thereby deliberately obstructing the House from exercising its constitutional oversight mandate.
Contributing, members expressed strong displeasure over the SUBEB Chairman’s behaviour and urged the House to recommend her immediate suspension for the period of six months in the first instance.
The Speaker of the House, Hyacinth Aondona Dajo, presided over the plenary session.
THEWILL recalls that last week, the House recommended the suspension of the Chairman of Oturkpo Local Government Council, Mr Maxwell Ogiri, over financial misappropriation and abuse of office.
