July 28, (THEWILL) – Benue State Executive Council, at its sitting on Tuesday, approved the sum of N120 million for the construction of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, secretariat in Makurdi, among other projects.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Michael Inalegwu, explained that of the sum, N99 million was for the purchase of boots, uniforms and other materials preparatory for the Community Volunteer Guard security outfit numbering about 1,000.
According to him, the sum of N917 million was for full grading of 30km road to Iordye community in Guma local government area, instead of contentious patching; noting that the contractor is expected to start work within two weeks.
Mr Inalegwu explained that on completion of the road project, it will enable security forces to move swiftly to security challenges, as it will also be of benefit to local farmers to shift their farm produce to the market with ease.
The Commissioner also said the Thursday and Friday work free days given to the state civil servants to work on their farms ends this Friday, as they are expected to resume full work on Monday.
The State Executive Council presided by it chairman, governor Samuel Ortom, also approved that all political appointees and senior government officials are to move to their respective local government areas to register and obtain PVCs, in which the state is targeting nothing less than five million voter cards.
