
July 28, (THEWILL) – The Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Funds, Arc Sunny Echono, has advocated Federal Government’s increase investment in the provision of health facilities to achieve maximum economic emancipation and national development of the country.
Arc Echono made the advocacy in a lecture he delivered at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Oturkpo, in Benue state, to mark the institution’s 2nd year anniversary celebration.
He stressed that the central role of education and health to the growth of any society cannot be over emphasised.
The Executive Secretary, who spoke on the theme: “Education, Health and Economic Emancipation of Nigeria”, explained that education built and equipped people with requisite knowledge and needed skills that qualifies them to earn the income, while good health was required for individuals to be able to perform the task and become productive.
According to him, the issue of poverty and its relation to both health and education cannot be ignored, hence the purpose of the two was physical, mental and economic wellbeing of individuals and other members of the society.
“It is, therefore, incumbent on government at all levels to pay attention to programmes that will improve the lot of people particularly reduction of poverty, promoting employment and other opportunities for the people”, he said.
Governor Samuel Ortom, who was represented at event, noted that it was in recognition of the health of the people that his administration donated the Government General Hospital, Oturkpo, for the smooth take off of the University of Health Sciences, Oturkpo.
The Governor assured that apart from ensuring the movement of the university to it permanent site, his administration will build a new General Hospital in Oturkpo for the people there to access healthcare facilities.
He commended president Muhammadu Buhari for approving the take off of the university during his time in office and called on people of the state to support its growth for the benefit of all.
