September 10, (THEWILL) — The Benue State Government has flagged off the construction of 1,080 housing Eco-City Estate initiated by Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC).
Performing the ceremony in Makurdi on Wednesday, Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by his Deputy, Sam Ode, said the Eco-City aligns with the administration’s vision to transform the state to meet with other developing cities of the Federation.
The project, which is located at the Benue Brewery Limited quarters, the governor explained that the ongoing dualization of the Wurukum roundabout, which is close to it, is meant to enhance accessibility to it.
“So, for those who are wise, the BIPC Eco-City is where to do your business. I am encouraging investors, especially Benue citizens, to subscribe to this smart estate. It will be an estate that will conform to the modern trend in housing”, he stated.
He, therefore, called on investors to come in quickly and see how they can be off-takers of this important project, saying there are two hectares on the ground and two others in another location, and urged Benue indigenes to be part of the gains of his government.
Earlier, the Group Managing Director of Benue State Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), Dr Raymond Asemakaha, stressed the urgent need for sustainable and affordable housing in Benue State.
He said the project, when completed, will bridge the housing deficit and high-cost accommodation in the State.
“We are starting with 32 units, the next phase is 48, and we also have the 30 hectares of land that will have 1,000 housing units. We are looking at 1 year, this will be done within 6 months, and the other phase, within 24 months for completion”, Dr Asemakaha hoped.
Residents of the area, including traditional rulers, youths, and other stakeholders at the ceremony, commended the Alia administration for the initiatives to end the scarcity of housing in the state.
Comrade Peter Gbam and Joyce Ibyer, who are food sellers, expressed the hope that with the take-off, the scheme would stimulate the local economy in the area.
