September 10, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested an alleged armed robber and cultist in Uyo, a village head over attempted murder in Abak, and two suspected vandals in Ikot Ekpene.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operations, which took place between September 6 and 9, 2025, demonstrate the police’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and public infrastructure.
According to the PPRO, on Saturday, September 6, at about 4:55 am, a surveillance team on a stop-and-search duty at Nung Oku roundabout, Ring Road 3, Uyo, apprehended one Kufre Aniefiok Akpan, a male from Nkin village in Itu Local Government Area.
The suspect was found in possession of a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun, two live cartridges, and charms suspected to be used for criminal operations. During interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the “Sky Low” secret cult. Investigation is ongoing.
On the same day, at about 2:30 pm, police operatives in Abak Local Government Area arrested the village head of Ibagwa, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, for allegedly attempting to murder his own sister, Unwana Effiong Friday Inyang, aged 32.
The suspect was reported to have shot the victim in the head with a locally made long single-barreled gun, following a dispute allegedly linked to palm fruits. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she is responding to treatment.
The PPRO confirmed that the firearm used in the attack was recovered, while preliminary investigation revealed that the attack was premeditated but rooted in a family misunderstanding. The case is under further investigation.
Also, in the early hours of the same day, September 6, police operatives acting on credible intelligence stormed a farmland in Nkap village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, where vandals were reportedly stripping Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) cables.
The police team arrested two suspects: John Joseph Udo, 33, and David Anthony Udo, 37, both from Ifoho village in Ikot Ekpene, while they were cutting and packing the stolen cables. The vandalised electrical installations were recovered at the scene.
DSP Timfon John noted that the Command has launched further investigation to track down other accomplices, particularly buyers of stolen electricity infrastructure, while assuring that the suspects will be prosecuted.
She commended the vigilance of community members and youths, stressing that timely intelligence and cooperation with security agencies remain crucial in winning the war against crime in Akwa Ibom State.
