June 12, (THEWILL) – No fewer than forty-two bandits and ten herdsmen have been arrested with the recovery of two AK-47 rifles in Benue state.
In his maiden interaction with newsmen in Makurdi on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ifeanyi Enemari, said twenty-one locally made firearms have been recovered, while other cases are under investigation.
The Commissioner of Police stated that upon arrival, the Tactical Squad was immediately deployed to the bushes in Apa, Anyiin, Ayilamo, Udei, Yelwata, and Naka. These areas, spanning Logo, Makurdi, and Gwer West local government areas, are being swept to dislodge armed criminals and ensure farmers can safely resume their work.
Police Commissioner Enemari added that other flash points in Oturkpo and Sankera axis have been identified during his tour, saying critical stakeholders in the trouble-prone areas have pledged their cooperation to tame the tide of criminality.
“The Inspector General of Police has directed me to work hard to improve the security situation and restore normalcy in Benue State. This, within one month of arrival, has improved on what my predecessor had done”, the CP declared.
He stated that the Command has curtailed activities of cult groups in Makurdi town, in which credit goes to both sister security agencies working in synergy, adding that the kidnapping menace along Daudu-Makurdi-Abuja is under control, as suspects have been arrested and charged to court.
CP Enemari commended unbiased reportage of the Command’s activities so far by the media, promising to operate an open door for members of the public to contribute to fighting insecurity for the peace of all.
