April 30, (THEWILL) – The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, has acquired a new haematology machine and other testing equipment to enhance its diagnostic and treatment services.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, Dr. Stephen Terungwa Hwande—represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Professor Michael Agbir—emphasised the importance of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) as a sustainable and strategic solution to the many challenges facing Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
He commended ACOUNS Nigeria Limited for embracing the PPP arrangement and supporting the hospital’s commitment to improving healthcare quality and access.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the hospital, the Head of the Haematology Department, Prof. Joseph Orkuma, took delivery of the Celltac Automated Haematology Analyzer and accompanying Cells Park, supplied by ACOUNS Nigeria Limited.
Prof. Orkuma noted that the new equipment offers significant advantages, including reduced reagent costs, guaranteed access to servicing engineers, and lower maintenance expenses.
He explained that the previous analyzer could only perform a three-part differential analysis—neutrophils, lymphocytes, and mixed cells—while the new machine delivers a full five-part differential, assessing neutrophils, lymphocytes, eosinophils, basophils, and monocytes with precision.
According to Orkuma, the BSUTH-ACOUNS partnership is set to last six years, during which ACOUNS will handle equipment maintenance, while BSUTH will source all reagents exclusively from the company.
Representing ACOUNS Nigeria Limited, Engr. Dabiri Monsur and Engr. Fabunmi Oluseni described BSUTH as a reliable partner, citing previous seamless business engagements with the institution.
A statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr. Moses Tsenzugul, quoted the management of ACOUNS as saying the partnership demonstrates the company’s commitment to public service and aligns with the hospital’s current vision for delivering quality healthcare.
