Betis Secure Antony Deal With Sell On Clause Before Transfer Deadline

Antony

September 01, (THEWILL) — Real Betis have completed the permanent signing of Brazilian winger, Antony, from Manchester United in a deal worth €25 million, finalised before Monday’s transfer deadline. The agreement includes a 50 percent net sell-on clause, though the 25-year-old player will not receive any pay-off from the transaction.

The Brazil international initially joined Betis on loan in January and impressed with nine goals across all competitions during his temporary spell. His performances convinced the Spanish club to trigger the permanent transfer option, bringing an end to his troubled stint at Old Trafford.

Antony’s Man Utd career proved disappointing following his €81.3 million transfer from Ajax Amsterdam in 2022. The forward managed just five goals and three assists in 62 English Premier League appearances, representing poor value for the substantial investment made by the English club.

The transfer forms part of Manchester United’s extensive squad overhaul during the current window. Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund departed for Napoli on a season-long loan earlier on Monday, whilst Marcus Rashford moved to Barcelona on loan last month.

Four other players besides Antony sought exits from Old Trafford this window, including Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho. Reports continue linking Sancho with a potential loan move to Aston Villa before the deadline closed.
