April 13, (THEWILL)- US President, Joe Biden, has alerted to a potential attack by Iran on Israeli soil, saying “sooner rather than later” while renewing his warning against Tehran to desist or risk an “ironclad”.
Biden’s caution comes after reports citing US officials suggested that Iran has prepared over 100 cruise missiles and an equal number of drones for a potential strike on military sites within Israel.
The assault on Israel may involve Iranian military units, as well as allied groups supported by Iran, the report disclosed.
While speaking to reporters on Friday, Biden emphasised Washington’s commitment to protecting Israel and sent a simple message to Iran–“Don’t”.
“We are devoted to the defence of Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed”, he said.
Earlier, the US president vowed “ironclad” support for Israel after Iran threatened to launch a “significant attack” following an alleged Israeli airstrike on the Syrian embassy on April 2 that killed top Iranian military officials, including a senior member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has urged his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China and European countries to use their influence to dissuade Iran from striking Israel.
He also nudged them to convince Tehran that such “escalation is not in anyone’s interest”, State Department spokesman, Matthew Miller, said.
