June 28, (THEWILL) –Renowned billionaire businessman and first Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Katsina, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, has passed away at the age of 94.
His death was confirmed in a statement on Saturday by his Private Personal Secretary, Mustapha Junaid.
“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.
“May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings. Janazah details will be shared later, Insha Allah,” Junaid wrote.
Born on May 19, 1931, Dantata was a pioneering industrialist and philanthropist.
He was the founder of Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd and a key promoter of Jaiz Bank, Nigeria’s first non-interest bank.
He played an active role in Nigeria’s political development and was a member of the National Movement, which later evolved into the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in 1978.
A prominent philanthropist, Dantata made numerous donations to educational and health institutions across Kano and beyond.
Notably, he donated the Alhassan Dantata Haemodialysis Centre to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
His death marks the end of an era for Nigeria’s business and philanthropic communities.
