BEVERLY HILLS, CA, June 18, (THEWILL) – The Tuesday attack on a football viewing centre in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, by Boko Haram, has been condemned.
Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, Wednesday, who condemned the attack which killed 14 persons and injured many others, also described it as heinous, barbaric and totally unjustifiable.
A statement issued by the goveror’s Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information, Mallam Abdullahi Bego, expressed sadness at the loss, calling on the counter-terrorism units of the Police and other security agencies to be up and doing in protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.
“The Governor is deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives at a time that the good people of the state have stepped up prayers and support and cooperation with security agencies against criminal activities.
“The governor’s thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives in the attack and those who sustained injuries,” the statement said.
Noting that the governor, who was away in Abuja on official engagement, has asked his deputy, Engr. Abubakar Ali, to extend his condolences to the families of victims and instructed him to visit the injured at the hospital, the statement which quoted Gaidam as describing the attack as “heinous, barbaric and totally unjustifiable.”
It added that Gaidam had directed the State Ministry of Health and the Hospitals Management Board to provide free medical services and care for those who sustained injuries in the attack.
The governor also pleaded with the people of the state for continued support of the ongoing efforts to restoring peace and security, saying “with their prayers, vigilance and continuing support to security agents, the people of the state will surely triumph against the forces of evil that are unleashing mayhem on the innocent.”
