SAN FRANCISCO, August 14, (THEWILL) – Apparently suffering from recent loss in encounters with the military, the Boko Haram insurgents may have embarked on forceful conscription to beef up its foot soldiers.
Indications to this development emerged with the forceful conscription of no fewer than 100 persons recently abducted in Doron Baga, a Borno community, on Sunday, where no fewer than 10 persons were also killed.
A local source disclosed that the insurgents stormed the village Sunday evening and abducted some boys and young men in addition to killing 10 others.
Residents of the village who escaped the attack said they had to flee the area because of the constant attack by the gunmen.
One of those lucky to have escaped the attack, Halima Alhaji Adamu, disclosed that six members of Hadejia community in Doron Baga were killed and about 100 young men were abducted on Sunday when Boko Haram stormed the village.
Adamu , who said she lost her husband to the attack, said she and other women were moving to Gashua, Yobe State with their families.
“The attack was on Sunday. In my family they killed six people, I don’t know about the other families but the Hadeija community which I belong also have about 100 people who were abducted by the insurgents,” she said.
She said she preferred relocating to Gashua to meet her family members instead of staying at the camp for the internally displaced in Maiduguri, the state capital.
“I think it is better to go and live with family members than opting for camps. We lost everything we have worked for, and I don’t think the camp will be a better place for us,” she said.
According to her, “With family members, we can have the courage to face life again but the camp will continue to make us reflect on our predicament because there is no care as such no focus for one to engage himself or herself into doing something meaningful.”
