BEVERLY HILLS, CA, November 14, (THEWILL) – Fresh attacks by suspected members of Boko Haram on some villages in Southern Borno State which started Sunday night may have claimed the lives of no fewer than 26 persons while several others were displaced as 40 houses were torched by the insurgents.
The villages affected in the fresh attacks include Bdagu, Izge, Hartsa and Yazza villages in Gwoza, Damboa and Askira -Uba Local Government Areas.
Three of the gunmen were however said to have been killed when some residents of neighbouring villages of Dille, Lassa mobilised and pursued them, killing the three insurgents and pursuing the rest to the nearby forest.
A source in Bdagu community said the gunmen who stormed the villages between Monday and Wednesday, arrived in two Hilux vehicles, three buses and over 30 motorcycles . They were said to have been armed with AK47 rifles as they embarked on  house to house killing and looting before setting 40 residential houses ablaze.
” It is unfortunate that the attackers operated with impunity, without any challenge as we the villagers are unarmed and helpless. We want to use this medium to appeal to the state government and the General Officer Commanding the newly established 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Obidah Ethan to immediately deploy military troops to the area, as we are now living in palpable fear of more attacks, ” another source from Yazza village said on Thursday.
Official confirmation of the attacks was however not forthcoming when filing this report though a security official who craved anonymity confirmed the attacks.
