Boko Haram gunmen Tuesday in Sabon Gari village in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State continued their killing spree as they killed no fewer than 27 persons in serial attacks. Many others also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the attacks.

Sabon Gari is about 40 kilometres drive to Biu in southern Borno, and 145 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital.

The insurgents had left their footprints of blood, tears and sorrow earlier when they stormed neighbouring Mandafuma village in Biu Local Government Area of the state, injuring one person and destroying property worth millions of Naira .

They had also blown-up the bridge linking Maiduguri- Damboa-Madafuma- Biu road at the weekend.

Local sources disclosedto THEWILL that the latest attack in Sabon-Gari claimed the lives of 20 persons while another seven were killed Wednesday morning while trying to bury the 20 earlier killed.

The insurgents were said to have taken the villagers by surprise when they re-surfaced in Sabon-Gari Wednesday morning to complete the havoc they started Tuesday evening, shooting to death seven persons at the village’s cemetery.

A relative of one of the victims, Mallam Iliyasu Ibrahim, said his cousin was among those killed on Tuesday. He also disclosed that two of his sisters had gone missing after the Tuesday attack, saying the village is now deserted as residents were left with no option than to flee to safety.

Though the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin, could not be reached for confirmation of the attack when filing this story, a top security source, craving anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying ” more than 20 people were killed on Tuesday and Wednesday in twin attacks on Sabon Gari village by suspected terrorists.”

Insurgents Kill Nine Persons In Askira-Uba

In the same vein, rampaging Boko Haram gunmen Wednesday stormed Huyim village in Askira-Uba Local Government Council of Borno State, killing nine persons.

Disclosing the latest attack was a local vigilante member, who told THEWILL that “The Boko Haram members attacked Dille and killed 45 persons,” stressing that ” Another nine villagers were killed in Huyim village yesterday after the Boko Haram terrorists killed the village head of Dille, burnt many houses, Churches and left many others seriously injured.”

Local sources further told THEWILL that the insurgents had stormed the predominantly Christian settlement, shooting sporadically as they unleashed mayhem on the community.
