SAN FRANCISCO, September 20, (THEWILL) – A soldier and two civilians were killed on Wednesday at the Yobe town of Buni Yadi as Boko Haram gunmen stormed the town, setting public buildings on fire in a late night raid.
This is the second attack in the last few months on Buni Yadi, a border town with Borno State located in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Impeccable sources in the area said one of the two civilians killed was the wife of a senior police officer as the insurgents armed with Kalashnikovs, rocket launchers and home-made bombs stormed the town at about 10 pm .
A resident of the town who craved anonymity told journalists that the gunmen numbering about 50 stormed the town at about 10:15pm shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee.
He disclosed that the son of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) youth leader in the state, Alhaji Ado Bomboy, was killed in the attack while many shops, houses and two telecommunications masts were set ablaze.
Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Ahmed Rufa’I, who confirmed the incident, said the insurgents killed one soldier, injured two and burnt the Divisional Police Officer’s wife inside her house.
A police station, fire service, Local Education Authority office and two JTF Hilux vans were also said to have been set ablaze by the insurgents.
The police commissioner disclosed that telecom masts in the town were also burnt by the insurgents.
