BEVERLY HILLS, CA, December 08, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army said at the weekend that the military is considering a change of strategy in its ongoing onslaught against the Boko Haram insurgents.
Spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Col. Muhammad Dole, who disclosed this at a media briefing in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, however pleaded with residents of communities around the nation’s borders in the Northeast, especially those around the Sambissa Forest regarded as the last fortress of the insurgents, to volunteer information that may be helpful to the security operatives in the onslaught against the insurgents.
Dole said the military has discovered that the terrorists have perfected plans to attack villages and communities surrounding the Sambissa Forest spanning six Local Government Areas of Bama, Konduga, Damboa, Chibok, Uba/Askira and Gwoza.
Dole said with the discovery, the military has to change its tactics and strategy in order to protect lives and property in the state.
“As the insurgents continue to change tactics of attacking our people in these border towns and villages, including the ones that are sighted on the peripheries of Sambisa Forest, our men have to change tactics with the adoption of new strategies to contain the incessant attacks and killing of innocent villagers.
“The new strategy, that we will immediately adopt, is the patrol of Borno towns and villages on their market days, including the 454-kilometre Maiduguri-Damaturu, Biu-Maiduguri, and Maiduguri-Gwoza roads of Central and Southern Borno state. The local people, will furnish us with the days these market are held,” he said.
Dole said it has been discovered that most of the Boko Haram terrorists’ attacks and killings in towns and villages in the state are carried out on market days.
