SAN FRANCISCO, December 26, (THEWILL) – The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Sani Sidi, yesterday asserted that there is currently no community in the North-east still under the control of Boko Haram terrorists.

He made this assertion at an award ceremony organized by Northern Youth Council, NYC, in Kaduna. The event was attended by representatives of youth group from all the nineteen Northern states.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in October handed the nation’s armed forces a December 31 deadline to rout Boko Haram insurgents. This was after he, upon assumption of office on May 29, relocated the command structure of the military to Borno State, the hotbed of the insurgency.

Sidi commended the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for reducing the work of the emergency agency from dealing with emergency situations to rehabilitation of victims of all kinds of emergency.

According to him, “There is no community that has not been liberated from Boko Haram now.

“We should thank our soldiers and the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to making sure this has come to pass.”

The NEMA D-G, while disclosing that there were no victims of disaster brought to the IDPs camps anywhere in the country at the moment, stressed that “We are soon getting over with the emergency issues; we are heading towards rehabilitation of IDPs instead.

“The government is working with various international agencies to make sure those at the IDPs camps are fully rehabilitated.”

The NYC used the occasion to honour Sidi with the award of Ambassador of Hope at the event held at the Kunfukun Hotel Kaduna. He however dedicated the award to staff of NEMA and displaced persons.
