SAN FRANCISCO, August 04, (THEWILL) – The Police on Friday confirmed an attempted suicide bomb attack on the General Hospital in Molai, a community on the outskirts of Maiduguri in Borno State.
The suicide bombers, however, failed to gain entry into the hospital before detonating the explosives they were carrying.
A statement by the Borno Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Ishuku, said a female suicide bomber first attacked a joint security guard location in the general area of the community around 11:22 pm on Thursday.
She was said to have detonated the improvised explosive device, IED, strapped to her body near the security guard location killing herself alone.
The police said hours later, around 5:15 am, two more suicide bombers targeted the Molai General Hospital and tried to gain entry into the temporary settlement area for rehabilitated leprosy patients.
“They were prevented by the persistent barking and attacks from dogs in the area. In the process, they hurriedly detonated IEDs strapped to their bodies, killing themselves,” the statement read.
It disclosed that the Police EOD teams were promptly drafted to scenes to sanitise and render the area and its surrounding safe,” adding that normalcy has since been restored to the area.
