SAN FRANCISCO, November 27, (THEWILL) – The military on Monday chalked another success in the ongoing war against terror as over 40 suspected Boko Haram members were reportedly killed in a fresh air and land raid of the hideouts of the sect members around Bita village along Damboa- Gwoza road in Borno State.
A fortnight ago, over 20 suspected terrorists were reportedly killed in the same village during a similar military offensive in which many of the sect members escaped the area with injuries.
Bita, which had had witnessed series of Boko Haram attacks in recent times, is located about 32 kilometres west of Gwoza, a town which is about 135 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital.
Impeccable sources in the area said the military raid, which took place on Sunday and Monday, was aimed at flushing out the insurgents suspected to have fled the recent attacks by the military.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Azubuike Iherijika, had during a recent visit to the newly established 7 Division of the Nigerian Army challenged his men to be steadfast and more dedicated to the fight against the insurgents.
It is believed that the charge may have informed the latest attack on the insurgents. “The recent attacks launched by the troops of the Division beginning from this week was a huge success, as one of the
stronghold/camps of the terrorists were destroyed with the killing of unspecified number of suspected Boko Haram insurgents,” the source said.
However no official confirmation of the attack was available when filing this report as the spokesman of military division could not be reached due to the telecommunication lock down in the state.
