BEVERLY HILLS, CA, November 18, (THEWILL) – The Borno State Police Command on Monday confirmed that it had commenced the probe of circumstances surrounding the alleged killing of eight Fulani herdsmen by vigilantes in Mallam-Fatori village in Abadam Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Tanko Lawal, confirmed the commencement of investigations into the incident, in a statement issued in Maiduguri, the state capital.
He disclosed that the Fulani herdsmen were allegedly killed during an attack on their Tumbun-Gini settlement in Mallam-Fatori by the local vigilantes earlier in the month.
“I can confirm to you of an incident at Tumbun-Gini in Mallam-Fatori in Abadam LGA in which eight Fulanis were allegedly killed by vigilantes.
“The police have commenced investigations into the killings,” the Police Commissioner said in the statement.
The confirmation came as an official of the Abadam LGA who craved anonymity said the killing was in retaliation to a suspected armed robbery attack at the neighbouring Tumbun-Jaki village on November 7, in which some people were killed and several houses razed .
He disclosed that the Fulani herdsmen were suspected to have carried out the robbery in which foodstuff, livestock and other valuables were allegedly looted.
