March 28, (THEWILL) – Colombia registered a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Japan in an exciting friendly match in Osaka on Tuesday.
The game saw Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma score a towering header for Japan in the third minute, but Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran equalised for Colombia in the first half. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Rafael Borre ultimately secured the win for Colombia with an acrobatic strike in the second half.
Prior to the game, Colombia drew 2-2 with South Korea, while Japan had a 1-1 draw with Uruguay. Mitoma, who has been in excellent form since joining Brighton last summer, gave Japan an early lead, while Colombia struggled to find their footing in the first half. However, Duran’s equaliser provided a much-needed boost for the visitors.
Colombia emerged stronger after the break and showed more attacking intent. Carrascal almost scored with a deflected shot, but it was Borre who ultimately secured the win with a spectacular overhead strike. Japan attempted to fight back, but Colombia held on for the win, with Vargas making a crucial save to deny Ayase Ueda’s header.
