March 11, (THEWILL) – Bournemouth pulled off a stunning 1-0 victory over Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium, with Philip Billing scoring the winning goal.
Liverpool failed to build on their impressive 7-0 victory against Manchester United, with a lacklustre performance that was epitomised by Mohamed Salah’s missed second-half penalty.
Liverpool started well but could not convert their early chances, while Bournemouth took advantage of their opportunities and took the lead in 28 minutes, thanks to a goal from Billing. Liverpool struggled to find their rhythm in the second half and failed to equalise despite being awarded a penalty after VAR intervention.
The result means Klopp’s side has lost consecutive EPL fixtures against opponents starting the day bottom of the table for the first time since December 2010-February 2011 (where they lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham respectively).
The win sees Bournemouth climb out of the relegation zone and up to 16th place, while Liverpool stay fifth, three points off Tottenham Hotspur in fourth. The Reds will now turn their focus to their UEFA Champions League Last-16 second leg against Real Madrid, while Bournemouth will visit Aston Villa next weekend.
