January 02, (THEWILL) – Former two-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Anthony Joshua met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, presenting him with an autographed boxing glove at the presidential residence in Lagos.
The meeting took place during President Tinubu’s holiday period in Lagos, where he plans to remain throughout the New Year celebrations, confirmed Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga through a statement dated December 18th.
Before his presidential meeting, Joshua visited Ogun State, receiving a cultural honour from Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The Governor named him ‘Omobowale’, a Yoruba name meaning ‘the child who has come home’, cementing Joshua’s connection to his Nigerian heritage.
Governor Abiodun recognised Joshua’s influence, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the state.
The boxing champion brought several family members, including his son, to experience their cultural background directly.
Speaking about his visit, Joshua said: “My coming home is intentional. I brought my son and some other relatives of mine to Ogun State to learn the culture of our people.
“I appreciate the Governor for honouring me, and I am fully committed to the development of boxing and other grassroots sports in Ogun State and Nigeria in general.”
